The Gifts of Christ to the Church, Pt. 2 (Ephesians 4:8-10)
Part of the The Book of Ephesians series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Sermon preached on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Garden Valley Chapel during our morning worship service based on Ephesians 4:8-10.
Take your Bible if you will and open it to the book of Ephesians chapter four. It is our joy to resume our study in this marvelous book.
We continue in part two of the gifts of Christ to the church.
It should not be a surprise to us that God´s nature is to give. Scripture time and time again reminds us of this important truth - God gives.
And we said last time together that God in Christ has given you a gift to serve for His glory in the Church.
Now when you look at the first six verses, Paul speaks of the unity in the church. That is why there is a need to preserve that unity.
Now, in vv. 7-10, Paul continues with the subject of the unity of the church. But now he is going to deal with it in a slightly different manner.
Listen as I read this portion of Scripture. Read Ephesians 4:7-10.

The Gifts of Christ to Individual Believers (v. 7) –
7 But to each one of us grace was given...
Paul has already established the fact that every believer has been given a gift in verse 7 – given for the benefit of the whole body.
Now he will prove it in the following verses, verses 8-10.
*At the center of it all is Christ. For not only is Christ the giver of each gift but He also determines the amount of the gift (cf. v. 7 “according to the measure”).
At this point, Paul may have anticipated the following questions:
How did our Lord ever come into the position to be able to do this?
How is it that He is the Giver of all the gifts?
What entitles Christ to do this?
All of which Paul answers in the following verses.
