Happy Birthday to My Bride

Please join me in celebrating my bride’s birthday today, November 14, 2013!

My bride is truly and wonderfully beautiful, smart, self-less, loving, kind, gentle, sweet, wise, discerning, precious, and above all a child of God. Today I give thanks to our Heavenly Father for saving my bride through the finished work of Jesus Christ and gifting her with the Holy Spirit who beautifully and continually sanctifies her unto Christ-likeness. In a year that has been filled with hospital stays, surgeries, and overall hard providences, my bride has shown so brightly God’s amazing grace. It is through hardships that one realizes blessings “coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” (James 1:17).

But that is only the beginning, for not only did He save my bride to be His own, but He brought her to me…those who know me know that apart from Christ in me, I am nothing. But that’s the beauty of marriage when you realize how blessed you are by God’s chosen bride for you – “for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health.” But at the end of the day you glory in saying, she is “my beloved and this is my friend…I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” I mean, wow!

And I am gifted with the privilege of celebrating her life this day, giving thanks to the Father who “gives to all people life and breath and all things” (Acts 17:25). The kids are celebrating in their own way, waiting for mommy to wake up from her sleep to say, “Happy Birthday” with cards, breakfast, and an interesting cake made of Playdough.

So if you have been blessed by my bride and would like to sing with us this day, please write her a little note, through snail mail, FB, or by e-mail. God is truly gracious, kind, and wise in blessing us with family and friends who walk by our side in life’s tremendous and glorious journey. Te quiero much mi amor!

Ordaining the Called

Phil Layton's Ordination Service
Phil Layton’s Ordination Service

The Torres family had a wonderful time at Phil Layton’s ordination service on Sunday, June 16. This marked a special day in Phil’s life as the elders affirmed His calling into Gospel ministry. It was an eventful evening to say the least. His father gave a brief family history. I was deeply moved by the kind words of his father to his son – all on Father’s Day too. Phil Johnson was asked to be the speaker for the evening, preaching out of 2 Tim 4:1-5 and gave a great charge to young Phil (who turned 38 that day). At the end of the service, the elders along with other pastors laid hands on Phil. We prayed and entrusted Phil to the Lord’s service.
